The art work so far has been hung and squeezed into this lovely Victorian house as part of our 'Story So far' exhibition at 15 dudley street.
It was a busy set up and an apprehensive pre nerve run up to the opening evening on monday, we were really busy and with the help of Jill & Elaine from Abbey Walk gallery we had an ample supply of fresh faces. It was a really exciting time for us and a real buzz knowing we had done this ourselves in a joint group effort to kick start our final year degree show funding. Jewellery and fashionable accessories were made my myself, Jackie and Sue.. cake was very beautifully made by Mandy and with coffee and cake on the go all week the visitors have been chatting and viewing the work at their leisure and made some remarkable comments in the book which have taken us all aback.
Everyone that attended have made us feel that we really have achieved much more than we ever set out to do with the exhibition and stunned us with remarks on how professional the set up has been and of course the level of work for 2nd year students. Some really avid art fans that have been visiting galleries all over the world for more than 50 years came to see us on Tuesday and after chatting stated how remarkable a job we had done, they stated that they had visited some top galleries and exhibitions over the years and that our exhibition will be on one of their top lists, with comments stating that they had even been converted to video art with the work they had viewed. This alone gives one the satisfactory feeling that this is all worth while creating and experimenting in the artistic world that is.
The praises through the week just keep on coming and give us all a boost to the already enthusiastic team, it is brilliant how everyone had pulled together and brought this exhibition the success it deserves. The work is very diverse and several painters all have their individual styles and only at the end of their second year are proving their worth as practising artists.
The opening evening was made even more spectacular with the performance piece from Sue Riemer, the aim of her performance as a nun who had taken a vow of silence proved beyond a shadow doubt that the church although offering faith and comfort, protection and solace, love and compassion can also instil fear and uncomfortable feelings among non church goers. A brilliant piece of interaction that set the exhibition apart from anything we have seen before in Grimsby.
All in all this has to be a real experience that we all had involvement in and we look forward to our next one. This is one event and exhibition personally will be proud to enter onto my CV.
well done guys,
I know we are going to make a mark on Grimsby and put it back on the map for the right
reasons because we made it work and this is only our 'Story So Far'.
