21st MAY

A week away from college and missing it like mad ahaha, I have had a lovely week off though and caught up on some of those household and garden DIY jobs. I have also been researching some bits and bobs for my dissertation and reading a book called 'Just My Type' by Simon Garfield which is a book about fonts. The book is a really interesting read and has the stories of how fonts came about and why we use the fonts we do in society i.e; advertising, logos, books, t-shirts, paperwork e.t.c even a story of how someone got dismissed from her job for sending an e-mail with a font that the workforce did not like??? lol one of the books on my reading list but I am enjoying it.

We as a group in our 2nd year of the degree have had a meeting at a building that we are going to use as a pop-up exhibition 'The Story So Far' at the end of June in Grimsby. The exhibition will be run from Monday to Friday 25th-29th June and will be held in a beautiful building that was originally a house and then used as office spaces. The building has some lovely rooms that we can utilise as a group to display our art work, the spaces vary from traditional homely rooms with fire places to contemporary board rooms with flat screen t.v's. We had the meeting to discuss whether or not the building was going to be available to us and what we could do with the spaces. It has a kitchen and toilet facilities which is a stroke upwards from some places we have exhibited before so I am looking forward to our next meeting to discuss further the ideas and choose work to place in the building.

For my role I hope to be making some prints or using some that I already have, displaying some sculpture work and also some films playing in the conference room. These ideas of course are only up in the air at the moment and we may need to be selective with the work as there is 11 of us going to be displaying work. I'm getting excited, it is a real rush organising and displaying your work ready for people to view, especially people that are not familiar with the work you do. Of course the whole idea behind this exhibition is about our degree show next year when we finish, the aim is to try and earn some cash to start of our funding for the show and maybe grab some sponsorship funding.

This week is all about art and I am hoping to get to Abbey Walk Gallery on Monday for the opening of Judy Tucker's Exhibition 'PRESTIGE' and of course on Friday is our pals the 3rd years degree show which I am really excited about seeing, I know they have all worked extremely hard and i'm sure it will pay off in a crescendo of a show. good luck guys xx
