My blog this week is a little late in the update department due to computer difficulties (i.e my lappy exploding on me) but here it is with some imagery at last.
As I stated before my work is continuing with memories and childhood stories, my work is also concentrating on issues of the time in sheffield where i was born and the hard times that most families may have been going through.
I have been researching various artists work but not for the reasons of memories but for the use of text in their work, the use of text interest me as this can be a most powerful tool of deployment and text can also be overlooked which can also make it ambigious too. The artists i have been looking at that have used text in an interesting manner are Barbara Kruger, Stefan Bruggerman and Rivane Neuenschwander.
These artist's works differ greatly in size, form and installation but none less powerful than the other.
My work with this in mind is working on shapes, Relevant shapes for my stories, the teardrop shape I have based my work on hold relevance to me and the times I were brought up in. The text is relevant to the stories and I do tell the story in full however the story can easily be missed by the magnitude of text. The text is continious and no grammer, punctuation, spaces etc have been used. the viewer if interested must take the time to view the piece in full and work out the story order, This is no easy task. The reasoning behind this for me give me full power over the audience and viewer as I have said what I want to say and it is all there for all to view, my heart and mind open wide in a moment of vulnerability but also protected as I know that hardly anyone if anyone would actually take the time to decypher it, or if really anyone is that interested to.
These objects originally were made to be filmed and with that I mind they still will be, but there is something about them that hold a uniqueness to them and that they are quite individual and could stand alone as a sculptural installation, I will not be stomping out any avenues and this semester I intend to fully explore every eventuality to its maximum potential. I am quite excited to where it could go.
