2nd Semester Week 5

This as been another busy week making some more hollow tear shapes and adding text to tell another part of the story I have been working on. I decided to make some more tears and use another media, I chose some copper and cut these shapes out and then enamelled then in prepertaion for text to be added. These enamelled objects are white on one side and on mixed on the other, the white side was to show the innocence of childhood and the otherside the complexity of adulthood and what is seen and what is not.

The coloured side have images now laid on them, translucent images that have to be looked at to find and make out. i wanted these images to blend into the background as many children had to do and only be seen if choosen to be.

I have also been looking closer at the brillaint work of international artist Lilliane Lijn, she is an artist that works really close with scientists all over the world and of course with NASA too. We were really lucky at Grimsby to have her visit us and give a great talk showing us various stages of her career. I have been looking at Lilliane Lijns shapes and conical units holding and projecting light, these of course inspiring myself to work on such things with the use of text.

This week I have also been busy making some sound to go with this installation and I have had great fun shouting and swearing into a voice recorder and layering and changing my voice to make this piece. It is only about 10 mins long but it has taken me nearly a week to get it to this stage where I am comfortable with it.

This weekend is going to be a mixed batch of reading, research, writing and sorting out my studio a touch. I will also be packing for my trip with college to Berlin, Germany. I am apprehensive about the trip but excited too, Berlin is not a place I would really have ventured through my own choices however I am really pleased to have been given this opportunity to go and hear that there is some great galleries and art within the area which I cannot wait to see. I know i will have a great time due to my collegues that I am travelling with, they are all mad!!!
