WOW, managed to get everything done and finished and still had time for a little xmas party with college buddies. (picnic lunch)
The fireplace is completed and 6 films loaded onto a dvd ready to play on the tv built into the fireplace. These films are various bits of narrative from childhood memories and fireside reflections. The theme really was about the enchantment I found in the flames and how hypnotic they can be, the sound and narrative on the film is supposed to give this effect and cause an hypnotic trance like state. Whilst watching the films there is supposed to be a feeling of being drawn into the fire and slowly falling into its spell.
The other piece to do with the fire is a few objects that have a ambiguous concept to them, these are a few coat hangers with the age 3-4 on and a glass demijohn with spent matches inside floating in water. these were to represent the fire in the wardrobe and what was left on the floor.
I also made a sound piece for the Utterby project and decided to make a piece on a plinth with cellophane and a large heat gun. this is to replicate a huge block of ice melting, thawing, dripping and cracking noises. this had light behind but is purely something to hide the sound cd player behind.
I got feedback from my essay draft and I was happy with that, not much wants changing but it does need more attention added to certain points and these points elaborating on more.
I left the walls in my studio bare and minimal as i thought there was enough going on about the studio without prints all over the walls. I really do think prints are best displayed in portfolio so that they can be seen at a different angle. The studio looks much tidier anyway.
Well that is the first semester over with and the time flew by, this might be as we had one project after the next to keep us occupied, just hope it did not interfere with our grades too much.
It is now time for the Christmas break and some home DIY to get done. I will be back in the new year to continue the saga so until then ta ta..
