The second week elapsed just as quick as the first and with a dissertation class on Tuesday done with a small sigh of relief was exhaled. I have tried to read as much as I can this week in between 1-to-1s, paint drying, workshop availability, chatter, coffee & man-flu.. yeah that's right the dreaded college lurgy is back, the doors open for students in Sept and within two weeks it has taken half the college ahhaha and with me being a man it is of course a life or death experience. But that said never be one to put a dying man down as I soldiered through and got on with my work none the less. My Frame was made over the weekend with many tools and many hours used to get the frame I wanted, no mean task for the professional carpenter/frame maker however for me it was doomed from the start. I did persevere and the finished frame nearly took pride of place in my living room I was that chuffed with it, but making the frame was only the start. I wrote a little poem about our home as a youth and this was printed and transferred onto the frame then varnished over several times to lock the text within the varnish. I never saw myself as poet or a writer but I do find art arouses all the senses and makes me want to try them all. The words and frame have been distressed and are meant to appear with a used lived in look.

Far too many tools for such a meagre job...
I was going to frame the frame I were that chuffed...
The poem...
The distressing....
The battered and worn frame...
(Someone did ask me this week why I just did not buy one from a shop and distress it... the answer is simple, this has my blood, sweat & tears in it.... literally! and that is one reason my work is unique, cos I made it ahahah)
The frame is now more or less finished and I am ready to start the internal piece which will be the time consumer, I just have to get as much of the pieced finished in my home studio as I can so that I have plenty to do in my uni studio. There is plenty to get my teeth stuck into this week and I have a few projects on the go so I am happy, this means I can get on with something whilst another is drying. I have few new techniques I want to play with and I will see where they lead.
The first meeting for fund raising was also held and we sorted some ideas out and threw quite a few about the room. We do not want the fund raising to take over our final year however it is imperative that it is done, swift and sure, so a few Chocolate Fridays and the odd craft fair should get us some cash flowing. Everyone seems keen to participate so that should help events go in the right direction, every little helps, so if you wish to donate ahahha get in touch.
Good one Baz !
