2nd Semester Week 15

Week 15 has gone too.. handed in some paperwork for my professional practice and the print out of my blog ahahha I thought there were a few hundred words but there appears to be over 12,ooo ahahah. I have had some feedback on these and can now sort the ones out that need to go in my book. That will hopefully be done next week on the hand in and I will omit the the actual pictures and add these in at the end in an appendix.

It is quite sad for the year to be coming to an end again and will be sad to lose the 3rd years but we all move on to newer climbs. This week saw a de-cluttering of my studio space and the laying of some carpet tiles to cover the horrid dirty floors. It does look bigger and cleaner and the presentation of the space and work appears to be of great importance this year. The tiles are also there so that I can run some electricity cable to my teepee sculpture. The piece inspired by the works of Liliane Lijn and the writing of Samuel Beckett, this four sided pyramid of sorts was made to reflect on the bonds made as youngsters and the forging together as a family unit in order to survive. The words are taken from a page in Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot' the part which I have have used is 'ONE WAS SAVED' & 'THOSE ARE NOT BAD ODDS ARE THEY'. I have added to the pieces by placing on the main structure 'ONLY ONE WAS SAVED' a word for each side of the four sided pyramid and one side representing each brother. The sides of the pyramid were fastened together using cord and the words 'I SAY, THOSE ARE NOT BAD ODDS FOR THE PEASANT FOLK YOU KNOW'. I wanted to elaborate on the words at play and enhance the feeling of class within a society and the main structure and words will be illuminated from the inside with delicate lighting hence the the inspiration from Lijn's works.

I have also finished the shabby sign to represent the multi-structured multi-cultural society that was when growing up, this also has links to my Dad being a rag & bone man for a short while and my adult years working in a nightclub and dancing in a cage. This sculptural piece also lights up and was meant to be shabby and seedy to roll the whole ideas together. It works better than I first envisaged and I was going to remove it but I feel it now works and separates from the other works but links with the same concept and stories.

The rest of the studio pieces are what I have been working on previously and I have decided to have a minimal look in the studio and remove all my other work that I feel was not strong enough to be placed there. I will of course leave my portfolio of ideas and my sketchbook of developmental work there too.

On Friday I also had professional practice class and watched Terry and Michael do their professional practice power-point presentation and I also got to do mine eeek much to my dismay. I managed to get through it relatively unscathed and only mumbled a few times now I am glad it is done with. Although everyone seemed to believe that it went well

All seems to be on track but saying that the last week always has disasters involved. Fingers crossed ahahah.
