Week 10

A really great week for getting stuff done.
A meeting at Wootton school Monday morning started off our week perfectly. Caroline Jackson, Susan Riemer & myself met with the headmistress at the school with our proposal of what were were intending to do with the children for the passing of the candle festival. The ideas were accepted and when we arrived back at the college we had made the candle & by the end of the day it was cut, sanded and ready for some primer.
The candle stands at 6' 6" x 2' 6" .
after the sanding the candle got four coats of primer and four coats of gold spray paint. we also gave all the edges several coats of spray varnish so that we could mask those areas out ready for the kids to create their art work on the main body of the candle.
Sue spraying the lower end of the candle.
We also cut out some candle fat drips to give relief work to the neck of the candle. Nifty bit of jigsaw work if I do say so myself, and i still have all my fingers.

The relief work will be lifted and once the kids have done what they do we will fasten the relief work down and all masking tape removed to give the piece a perfect border. More on this project next week after the day at Wootton school.

I have also finished another short film on the fire theme. This one is using effects and sound to create what memories I had as a child sat in front of the fire, my grandfather would tell me to move away from the fire as the blue flames were the devil and that the sparks were witches cackling. The filming is a bit blaire witch so bare that in mind.

I have also made some more collgraph printing plates for the Utterby project and hopefully will get some of these printed this weekend at home. But the crescendo of the week was the guest artist to the college Paddy Hartley. This guys work is amazing and the way in which he has worked within art and design and stayed true to himself is inspiration to us all. From his early ceramic works through his face distorting corsets and from project facade back to the face corsets now used on fashion shoots all over the world. Rather than explain it is just better to give the links to his websites.

A totally humble and down to earth artist who loves the work he makes and has stayed true to himself throughout & look forward to what his next project brings & his next visit to Grimsby. Brillaint end note to the week.
